(3) YBC5 9900. 38 : 34 : 21 mm. Stringholes in the upper corners. Impressions of two different seals. On the two flat sides and either side edge impressions of seal (d) of Nos. 1 and 2. On the upper edge an impression of the seal Scheil No. 6 (see below, our No. 4). Poorly preserved, therefore not reproduced.

H.891a (upper edge) equals our (c), H.891b (flat side) equals our (a). The other impressions are probably not clear enough to yield useful photos.

(6) Paris, Louvre AO 7701. See L. Delaporte, Catalogue des cylindres... II, sub A.801, plate 122, fig. 1 and page 176. A.801a (flat side) equals our (a), A.801b (upper edge) equals our (c). The text mentions a third impression as almost completely covered by deposits; the traces described point to identity with our (d). The Louvre piece is probably in every detail identical with Crozer 200 and YBC 9901.

We can now proceed to a more detailed description of the four seals for which new impressions have become available.


Seal (a)

A lion attacks a standing stag by jumping upon its back. The lion's face is seen from the front, the stag (showing elaborate antlers) turns its head back. Above the scene a winged disk with Ahuramazda; it shows the characteristic tail feathers and streamers. Above the lion's back are five characters in Aramaic script.

The inscription has been treated several times before; see Scheil, l.c.; M. Lidzbarski, Ephemeris für semitische Epigraphik, I (1902), 276;7 Clermont-Ganneau, Répertoire d'épigraphie sémitique, I (1900-1905), No. 245. But, the readings proposed by these
